Born on the historic Madrone Vineyards Estate, originally planted in 1863, Valley of the Moon Winery has been at the foundation of Sonoma Valley’s winemaking heritage for over 150 years.
As one of the first wineries in Sonoma Valley, Valley of the Moon boasts some of the region’s oldest Zinfandel clones. Classic Italian varietals such as Sangiovese and Barbera flourish in our fertile soils offering a gentle bow to the Italian immigrants that established Sonoma’s winegrowing legacy more than a century ago. And of course Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, for which Sonoma Valley has become known, have found their home among our 60 acres of estate vines.
These varietals, combined with those we have hand-chosen from select growers within Sonoma County, are the foundation of our winemaking and our wines now which are under the direction of winemaker Kat Doescher.
